UNBS Seizes Sure Deal Cosmetics over poor standards, forgery

Uganda National Bureau of standards over the weekend raided and seized tones of Sure Deal Beauty cosmetics products at their Senana Building branch for poor standards and forgery.

Founded by Maria Prosy Namwanje, Sure Deal Beauty products, have been used by many for skin bleaching.
Through their Market surveillance inspectors, the bureau found out that the cosmetics company was using illegal UNBS quality mark to sell their products.

“Also confiscated were products that contain mercury and hydroquinone which is harmful to human health,” they said.
Hydroquinone works to reduce the amount of melanin your skin produces, which in turn makes your skin lighter in appearance however, doing this makes your skin more susceptible to UVA and UVB rays that can lead to dangerous sunburns, and over a prolonged period of time, an increased risk of certain types of skin cancer.
