Tamale Mirundi; the most watched TV personality- research

He has fought his host live on air, threatened presenters, name it- nothing will force NBS management and radio stations to suspend Tamale Mirundi, not even Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) fines and threats to suspend their license.

A new Television audience market survey by research firm IPSOS Marketing Limited, ranks the self-styled media consultant and controversial political, social commentator –Tamale Mirundi as the most watched TV personality in Uganda.
The survey ranks, One on One with Tamale Mirundi, aired on NBS TV every Tuesdays at 10 am as the most popular program across all TV stations in Uganda. The programme is hosted by Muyanga Lutaaya.
According to the report, 44% of the respondents said Tamale Mirundi’s programme is the best current affairs show followed by another NBS’s Frontline programme at 34%.

Frontline, is a talk show that airs every Thursdays between 10.00 PM and Midnight.
The research firm interviewed people in the central region covering Kampala, Wakiso, Entebbe and Mukono.
Sample area [ region] was informed by a number of reasons: it is the area with most educated people, being the most economically vibrant region and also being the area where 70% of TV sets in the country are found.

The respondents were mainly viewers of local English based Television stations including: NBS, NTV, Kwese Sports, Urban TV, UBC Magic One, UBC, and Channel 44.
According to research findings, NBS TV outshined its main competitors [mainly NTV] in current affairs, live broadcasts and unique programming.
Overall, 54% of the respondents considered NBS TV as the market leader in two segments.

However, the Serena based NTV still leads when it comes to News bulletins both for English and Luganda.
41% of the respondents said they watch NTV’s Akawungeezi compared to 28% who said they watch NBS tv Amasangejje.

Also, 45% respondents said they watch NTV’s English news, NTV Tonight, compared to 42 % respondents who watch NBS TV’s Live at 9 news.
