‘ ‘ The NRM government has restored peace and reinvigorating the economy, leading to minimum recovery. Now, most essential commodities are manufactured here, unlike before where we had to largely depend on imports.’’ The president said.
He added: Today I also tasted the fruits of the NRM efforts, I landed at Kabaale where a new airport is being constructed to international standards, with a 5km runway.
‘ ‘I travelled to Kigorobya on a largely tarmacked road about 70kms, some sections are still under construction, but it will soon all be tarmacked. I therefore thank the people of Bunyoro and Ugandans in general who have supported the NRM, with this support, we have been able to archive a lot’’
The head of state said that developments like the discovery of oil deposits in Bunyoro region have happened because of a peaceful environment and NRM government zeal for national development.
‘ ‘I have noted reports of land issues in the area and I am told it is exacerbated by people seeking refuge here from neighboring countries like DRC, the lesson here should be, despite the landmass of Congo, these people are not coming because of land pressure in congo because its almost double the size of Uganda, but peace is what brings name. I, therefore, ask you to guard the peace we have jealously ‘’ he added
On the issue of tobacco farmers that suffered the loss, after selling of produce to a Kenyan company – ‘Continental’ which run bankrupt, the president said government is going to compensate all the farmers for losses incurred
