Police in Fort Portal have named some of the passengers killed Link bus accident
The accident occurred at Sebitoli trading centre in Busoro sub-county in Kabarole district on Wednesday along the Fort Portal-Kyenjojo road.
The bus, registration number, UBA 003S veered off the road and overturned several times.
20 people died on the spot while another victim, John Asiimwe succumbed to injuries at Fort Portal regional referral hospital
Death toll: 13 are adults while seven are juveniles. Out of the 21, 12 are male and nine are female- the police said in a statement.
Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori West Region police spokesperson has identified some of the deceased as Hassan Sempala, Steven Kahwa, Alum Susan, Jimmy Nkutuma, James Muhanga and Derrick Mujuni,
Others are: Roseline Kanyunyuzi, Stella Biraba, Moses Masereka, Maxima Kabafumi, Harriet Nabukenya, Alice Nyakuha, Gift Asiimwe, Dauphine Alinda, Divine Alice, Lastako Thembo, Sefania Mussumba, one Monica and another victim who identity has been established.
Meanwhile, Works and Transport ministry has since suspended the operations of Link Bus Services.
According to police statistics, some 20,000 road accidents occur nationwide each year, causing more than 2,000 deaths and thus making Uganda among the countries with the highest traffic fatality rates.
