Diana Babirye 28, a resident of Kitintale was arrested after stealing goods worth 20 million shillings from a friend’s shop (Peace Tusingwire) located in Ntinda Kigoowa. Police later recovered the goods at the suspect’s home upon search.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire said Babirye hatched the plan of looting her friend’s property days after a rumour that her friend Babirye was tired of the shop business and was in need of a more decent and handsomely paying job. She then offered to help her.
Investigators revealed that each time an appointment would be set to meet the potential employees, the unsuspecting victim would leave her friend Babirye at the shop giving her a chance to duplicate the shop keys.
The complainant told police in her statement that she had left her long time trusted friend at the shop which gave her an opportunity to duplicate the shop keys.
The suspect was later able to access, open the shop and steal all the valuable merchandise.
Police then tracked Babirye’s phone and call data placed her at the shop location by the time of the breaking.
Upon arrest, a number of goods were recovered from her home in Luzira Kirombe and taken to Ntinda Police Station.
She later admitted having stolen these goods and blamed it on spirits that had consumed and forced her to involve in the acts such as stealing, night dancing etc… The suspect is currently detained at Ntinda Police Station under charges of theft pending arraignment before courts of law.
