United States Embassy in Tanzania has issued a Health Alert, urging nationals of hard times ahead as COVID-19 reaches a critical stage.
The embassy says hospitals in Dar es Salaam are already overwhelmed by Covid-19 cases.
In the statement issued on Wednesday, the embassy warned its citizens in the country to prepare to remain for an indefinite period as it rules out repatriation flights.
The Embassy told all its staff and Americans to stay at home because there is “risk of contracting COVIDー19”.
The embassy also says “all evidence points to exponential growth of the epidemic” in the East Africa’s second largest economy.
Quoting ‘a well-placed source’ in Dar es Salam, veteran journalist and the Managing Director of the Independent Magazine, Andrew Mwenda early this week, said Dar es Salam ad 16,467 positive cases , 1,293 dead and only 118 recoveries!
‘‘40 people are dying of covid19 daily’’ he added.
Meanwhile, Zambia has shut down its border with Tanzania after the country witnessed the highest spike of Covid-19 infections on Saturday. As it widened screening, Zambia recorded 85 cases on a single day with three deaths related to the pandemic.
