Over the years, the Abosoga have been treated as second best citizens. Various displeasing comments about the Abasoga are a common thing in the public arena and on social media

There’s a common joke that to find a Musoga who’s sensible, s/he should be over 45 years. There are many more negative affirmations about the Abasoga.

There is interesting one: That a Musoga was selling pancakes (kabalagala) at old Kampala Taxi Park and the conductor was calling passengers “Ggaba, Kabalagala, Ggaba, Kabalagala

The Musoga decided to distribute the pancakes to the passengers in the taxi, after he went to the conductor: “Maze okugaba kabalagala, sasula ssebo”! –literally meaning, I am done with the distribution, you can pay now.

However, the latest findings reveal the Abosoga are slowing finding their rightful position in Uganda.

According to the Presidential Advisor on the media, Tamale Mirundi, this generation is for the Abasoga.

Speaking recently on one of the local radio stations Mirundi said: The very tribe that has been treated as second best is slowing taking over strategic leadership positions in the country.

He went on to list them: NRM Secretary General Kasule Lumumba, Speaker of Parliament Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, Muvawala, and the Head of National Development Planning Authority.

‘‘The Man who led Uganda Cranes to the African Cup of Nations after nearly 40 years- Moses Magogo, is also a Musoga’’ Mirundi said.

The self styled media consultant observed that unlike other tribes in Uganda: Notherners, Westerners, and Baganda, the Abasoga are seen as a neutral tribe with no threat.

Mirundi urged that if things remain so, in the next few years, this underestimated tribe is likely to takeover leadership of this country.

Uganda’s presidents have come from Western Uganda (President Museveni) Northern (Milton Obote, R.I.P),Okello Lutwa  and Idi Amin (R.I.P) Central/ Buganda  (Mutesa 1, Godfrey Binaisa, Yusuf Lule). Busoga is the only region that is yet to produce a president of Uganda.

The former prime minister of Busoga Kingdom has published several articles, books and cases in the area of the business management. The wife to Tanzania’s hit maker- Diamond Platnumz took to social media last year to confirm that she is not moved by  the Basoga stereotypes. She said: I am a proud Musoga woman.

The controversial thing about Zari is that her grandfather hails from India, her father from Somalia while her grandmother was born in Burundi.
