With Uganda’s music industry is steadily growing. We are beginning to separate boys from men and girls from the women.
The industry has in the past flourished on beef and money. Not anymore. Today, it’s about talent.
The musicians of yesterday, are apparently finding it hard to sustain the pressure as the young talents take center stage. Otherwise, it is no longer about the sweetness of the song, Video quality also matters.
The ‘old girls’ have now taken on copy and paste, to sustain the pressure.
The latest victim is Juliana Kanyomozi, after she plagiarized one of the songs of American super star singer Jlo -Jennifer Lopez. The faded musician picked several stunts from the song “Aint Yo Mama”.
In her defense, Juliana stated: “The copy and paste” was not my intention at all. I was just releasing another song. It didn’t break me down though. I like to listen to people’s criticism. I wasn’t angry, but I was surprised it was such a big deal”
Singer Rema Namakula and wife to BET award winner Eddy Kenzo has joined the bandwagon after she chose to re-edit singer Yemi Alade’s Yemi Alade song- Sugar ‘n Spice in her new song Yo Sweet REMA.
What happened to this once promising song-bird? When Rema left Gagamel a few years ago, everyone was like she is not going to make it without Bebe Cool, she is indeed no more. With her falling fame and now copy and Paste, what else can we say?
