Jinja High Court presided over by Justice Luswata on Friday 13th January 2016 granted Rwenzuru king Charles Wesley Mubere a non-cash bail of Uganda shillings five million.
Each of seven sureties, including the leader of Opposition and Kasese Woman member of parliament, Winnie Kiiza bonded Ugx. 100 million, not cash. The other sureties are: Busongora North MP Wiliam Nzzoghu, Bukonzo County West MP Atkins Godfrey Katusabe, Kasese Municaplity MP Centenary Franco Robert, Bukonzo County East Mp Muhindo Tonny Harold.
The judge restricted the King’s movement. He is not allowed to move outside Uganda and in the districts of Kabarole, Kasese and Bundibugyo.
Earlier the team from the state attorney’s office and DPP’s office informed court that releasing king on bail would interfere with the ongoing police investigations since he is an influential person.
Mumbere is charged with about 40 counts including treason, murder, aggravated robbery, attempted murder and destruction of property arising from clashes.
The king is expected to report in court on 13th February 2016.
