Rwanda is to host the East African Community sustainable Energy forum which is expected to kick off from February 19, 2018 until February 21, 2018.

According to a statement from the East African community Headquarters in Arusha-Tanzania, the sustainable energy forum will serve as a platform to discuss ways that multi-stakeholder partnerships, such as the Sustainable Energy for All (SE for All) can remove barriers that limit the availability of affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy services.

The forum will enable discussions about strategies that allow scale, and support off-grid, mini-grid and grid- based solutions together, and harmonizes RE & EE policies, to upscale financing in RE & EE projects and technologies in the East African Community member’s states.

The conference comes when connectivity on national grid by most EAC member states is still very poor; many locals from the community cannot afford connection fee to ensure that majority of the population in the East African community have access to clean energy, most countries are not advocating for the promotion of sustainable energy such as solar.

Among the key issue to be discussed during the Energy Summit include, Financing SE projects in the EAC region, Geothermal Energy in East Africa, Energy and Gender in the EAC region. The conference will be attended by policy makers, Energy experts and Financing Institutions
