Rwanda govt. advises Rwandans to avoid travelling to Uganda

Rwanda Foreign Minister Dr Richard Sezibera on Friday advised Rwandans to avoid travelling to Uganda for their own safety.



He however said, Ugandans are safe and free to travel to Rwanda. There are more than one million Rwandese living and working in Uganda.

“Rwandans are strongly advised NOT to travel to Uganda due to ongoing arrests, harassment, torture, Incarceration without consular access, deportation etc,” Sezibera tweeted on Friday.

He added: This is for their own security. Ugandans in Rwanda or travelling through Rwanda are safe.
Hon. Sezibera also said all Rwanda’s borders are open to Ugandans and Ugandan goods.
‘ ‘As explained to many journalists, all Rwanda’s borders are open. Trucks and heavy vehicles are advised to use Kagitumba due to ongoing construction at Gatuna. Rwandans are strongly advised NOT to travel to Uganda due to ongoing arrests, harassment, torture’’ he said.



Adding that, Incarceration without consular access, deportation etc. This is for their own security. Ugandans in Rwanda or travelling through Rwanda are safe.
Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo told journalists on Thursday that Uganda’s Foreign Affairs minister, Sam Kutesa ‘ ‘is in touch with Rwandan authorities to resolve any border issues’’
