Early this week, over 200 ruling party MP’s and some cabinet members adopted a motion to remove the Presidential Age Limit from the Constitution. The motion was moved by the Kyaka County MP, Jakson Rwakafuuzi and seconded by all the attendants except one — Kumi Woman MP, Monica Amoding.
This did not go well with some opposition members of Parliament. One such is the Kyadondo East member of parliament, Kyagulanyi Ssentamu also known as Bobi Wine.
Bobi Wine, described NRM MP’s plot to remove the Presidential Age Limit from the Constitution which would allow president Museveni to rule for life as ‘‘defiling the constitution’’. The singer turned political called on Ugandans not to allow their member of parliaments to defile the constitution.
‘ ‘A United Voice of People Can Stop this Nonsense of Age Limit Bill In Parliament. You Have the Power to Stop them because you had the powers to send them to Parliament. The same powers you used to send them to Parliament is the same powers you have to stop them to defile your Constitution. Yes, It’s your Constitution not their Constitution. Wake up and act now.’’ Bobi Wine posted on social media.
Some of the cabinet members that reportedly and secretly supported tabling the private members bill included the Defense and Veterans Affairs, Adolf Mwesige, Karoro Okurut, the minister for General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ronald Kibule the state minister for Water and Galabuzi Soozi of Luwero Triangle and Evelyn Anite Kajik.
