A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane traveling from Lahore to Karachi on Friday crashed close to Karachi airport, the civil aviation agency has said.
The Airbus A320 was carrying 107 passengers and crew, crashed into a residential area near the southern Pakistani city of Karachi, the country’s civil aviation agency said
The pilot called in to air traffic control describing a technical fault minutes before the crash
Government officials told reporters that at least three of the people onboard the plane survived.
Video footage from the scene showed billowing black smoke and people running away screaming.
A schoolteacher working nearby said she heard a “huge crash – it felt like doomsday. I saw smoke rising from the next street.”
the plane, Flight PK 8303 had earlier made one attempt to land but the pilots decided to go around for a second.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan said he was “shocked and saddened” by the crash , promising an immediate investigation.
