Museveni donates 600m to Tanzania earthquake survivors

President Museveni has donated to the September 10 earthquake survivors in Tanzania. The tremor claimed the lives of 19 people and injured over 300 in the Kagera Region.

 

Tanzania Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa reported to president John Magufuli over the weekend that President Museveni had donated US$ 200,000 (about Ugx. 660m) to support the victims of earthquake that destroyed 2,063 houses leaving more than 315 homeless.

Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta also donated building materials worth over $50,000 (about Ugx. 165 million) to help the victims.

 

President Magufuli said priority will be given to rehabilitating damaged public facilities. The president also called for more assistance to shelter, feed and treat the displaced.

 

Government said so far Tsh 3.6 billion ($1,653,372) have been raised to the cause. President Magufuli issued a warning against abuse of the funds.
