President Museveni says the Forum for Democratic Change and Member of Parliament for Nakawa Michael Kabaziguruka wanted to kill him sometime back while the president was on his farm in Kisozi, Gomba.
The president revealed this while meeting Political party leaders under the Inter-party organization for dialogue (IPOD) at State House Entebbe over the weekend.
“He [Kabaziguruka] came to Kisozi to assassinate me,” Museveni reportedly told the meeting.
Hon. Kabaziguruka, was recently arrested and arraigned together with 21 others before the General court martial, (GCM) in Makindye on treason charges.
The 21 military suspects include Captain Andrew Ojok, Captain Emmanuel Tebesigwa, James Makagi, Privates; Jacob Obua, Shafik Masembe, Benon Tugume, Paul Agutti, Justine Olwel, Bilal Asuman, Godfrey Amonde, Ambrose Auyo and Richard Odoma.
Prosecution told the GCM that between February and June this year, the suspects met in various places, including Kampala, Wakiso and Luweero districts and plotted to overthrow the elected government by force.
The president reportedly told the IPOD members that he has intelligence briefs that suggest Colonel Kizza Besigye, Hon Michael Kabaziguruka and former coordinator of intelligence services General David Sejusa, were harboring ill-intentions of disrupting peace in this country.
According to the Observer, the President told the meeting that the government cannot simply release Kabaziguruka when there is evidence he was planning to commit crime. He says there should be accountability first before reconciliation; otherwise, it would breed impunity.
