Forum for Democratic Change, has called for punitive action to politicians especially MPs who are convicted of forging academic papers

“If we impose huge penalties and we say you are found to have forged papers, pay a penalty of Shs1b or face 10 years in prison, nobody will attempt. That is our mind, if we are in charge; we will not allow such a situation to happen,” Harold Kaija the deputy secretary general of FDC said

He said that it’s unfair to burden tax payers with costs of organizing by-elections without punishing those who engage in forgery

So far, 13 legislators have been kicked out of Parliament, with a majority over forged academic documents. They include Lugazi Municipality MP Isaac Mulindwa Ssozi, Busiro South MP Peter Ssematimba, Oyam North MP and State minister of Defence Charles Okello Engola Macodwogo, Kamuli Municipality MP Rehema Watongola, Lwengo Woman MP Cissy Namujju and Katikamu South MP Edward Ssembatya, all of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. They have appealed the different rulings.

FDC has also blamed the government, particularly President Museveni, for not providing leadership to avert accidents which continue to take the lives of Ugandans.
