Masindi municipality Member of Parliament and Minister of State for Bunyoro Affairs Ernest Kiiza was kicked out of parliament seat after the High court found him guilty of electoral malpractice.

The High court in Masindi nullified Kiiza’s victory and ordered for fresh elections. The ruling follows a successful petition by former Bujenje MP, Kabakumba Matsiko.

Kabakumba challenged Kiiza’s election on grounds of voter bribery and influence peddling.

Kabakumb noted that during the election period, Kiiza gave out five crates of soda and 25 bags of cement to Kabalye Miracle center, constructed wells at Bulyango 1, Kibwona, Kirasa and Kabalye settlement in Masindi municipality and put inscriptions “funded by Ernest Kiiza Apuuli,” which she termed as electoral offense.

The ruling was delivered by deputy High court registrar (civil division), Alex Ajiji on behalf of the presiding judge Elizabeth Nahamya.

The judge said the petitioner had proved beyond reasonable doubt that Kiiza and his agents had been involved in bribing voters.
