When Aupal Emmanuel, a student from Makerere University took and shared a photo of fresher reporting at the Ivory Tower with a metal case and Osoufia, presumably to shame the poor, but talented young Ugandan, little did he known that he was opening a door of opportunities for him.
‘‘A rare picture of a fresher attached to [Makerere] University Hall reporting today with Senior One metal case and Osoufia’’ Aupal Emmanuel tweeted.
The photo went viral, attracting sympathizers promising to help the poor Ugandan realize his dreams.
Ssuubi Henry Kiyimba was admitted to Makerere University on Government Sponsorship – National Merit Scheme, Bachelor of Science with Education (Economics)
On Thursday, thanks to Aupal’s tweet, Ssuubi met with Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe in his office.
Indeed, a rare opportunity many university students will never have while at the university.
‘‘I have had the pleasure to meet Mr. Ssuubi Henry Kiyimba, the student who was mercilessly attacked on social media as unfit to come to Makerere.’’ Prof. Nawangwe.
He added: I encouraged him to enjoy his stay at Makerere and work hard on his future career.
Meanwhile, BBC’s Allan Kasujja and UBC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Cedric Ndilima and others have promised ‘ ‘ lay a table for Ssuubi Kiyimba to shame those who were laughing at him.’’
