Major General Levy Karuhanga, the former commander of UPDF reserve forces and Chairman of Military Court is dead. He died yesterday shortly after he was admitted at Nakasero Hospital complaining of stomach complications.
The late was born in Bushenyi District on 24 February 1956. For his Primary, he went to Nyamitoma, Bweranyangi, and Mwengura Primary Schools. He joined Mbarara High School, from where he moved to Nairobi, Kenya, graduating with a diploma in international studies.
Gen Karuhanga joined the National Resistance Army lead by President Museveni in early 1981.
The late, served in different capacities in the UPDF. Between 1990 and 1992, he served as Brigade commander of the UPDF 4th Division. In 1994, he was part of the UPDF Contingent and second in command of the United Nations peacekeeping unit in Liberia.
From Liberia, Gen. Karuhanga was appointed Deputy Commander of the 3rd UPDF Division and later 3rd Division commanding officer in 2001.
In 2007, Karuhanga was appointed as the first commander of the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM). He served for one year.
In 2010, Karuhanga was appointed commander of the UPDF reserve forces until 2014. He was later appointed Chairman of the Military Court, a post he has held until his death.
