Lira regional referral hospital has temporarily closed to the public after a number of staff tested positive, plus the death of a doctor at the regional hospital.
‘‘On a sad note the Ministry announces the death of a Senior Medical Officer of Lira Regional referral hospital due to COVID 19. The Ministry commiserates with the staff of Lira hospital and the entire medical fraternity on this untimely death. May his soul rest in eternal peace.’’ The ministry of health said in a brief statement
Dr Patrick Odongo, 56, breathed his last in the hospital’s intensive care unit on Saturday night.
The death of Dr Odongo brings to six, the number of health workers who have tested positive for the virus. As a result, management has closed the facility to the public.
‘‘Four health workers were confirmed for COVID-19 at Lira RRH, of which 2 work in the operating theatre. The theatre has since been temporarily closed for disinfection and contact tracing.’’’ The ministry announced on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the ministry o Sunday confirmed 128 new COVID-19 cases. According to results from COVID-19 tests done on 05 September 2020. The cumulative total confirmed cases of Ugandans are now 3,667.
Two COVID-19 deaths were also registered from Kampala and Jinja. This brings the total COVID-19 deaths to 41.
