KCCA threatens to arrest and prosecute Street preachers for causing noise pollution

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), has warned individuals conducting unapproved activities on the streets city to vacate or risk being arrested and prosecuted in the courts.
The Authority in a statement says those that face arrest include, street preachers, vendors, those doing unapproved mobile advertising, pasting and hanging unapproved banners.

The Authority says, these will be arrested and prosecuted in courts of law for violating the KCCA Maintenance of Law and Order Ordinance of 2006.

Regulation 7(e) of the Ordinance states that any person who makes or causes any excessive noise either by himself or herself or with any instrument or machine or creates any disturbance commits an offense. The penalty for this is two months in jail, or a fine of Ugx. 400,000 or both.

The street preachers are mainly from Pentecostal churches. They are common in busy junctions including Jinja road junction near Electoral Commission offices, Wandegeya traffic lights, Clock Towers Entebbe road among others.
