Kayihura’s problems started late last year when President Museveni ordered for the arrest for the arrest of senior police officers. The army arrested Nixon Agasiirwe, the former commander of the police Special Operations Unit, Joel Aguma, the then Professional Standards Unit commander and Sgt Abel Tumukunde among others.
Speaking to mourners at the homes of slain police spokesperson, AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, President Museveni warned Kayihura to clean his house which he said was infiltrated by criminals.
Kayihura is so far the longest serving Inspector General of Police since independence 56 years ago. His sacking was received with mixed reactions as some members of the public thought it was long overdue, while others felt he had done a tremendous job at the helm of the Police.
