Education: Kadaga wants Busoga to compete with other regions

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has pledged to continue fighting for education of the girl child in Busoga.

Kadaga said that it is important that education in Busoga is given a boost to allow the girls and other students excel and compete with other regions in the country.

“I will not stop fighting for the girls in Busoga to go to School. I want to see them safe while at school. I have decided to construct girls’ dormitories and even stock them with beds,” she said.

Kadaga made this commitment as she attended a graduation party of for 11 children of the Late Patrick Mulumba and Mrs. Loy Mulumba in Buwenge, Jinja district. The 11were awarded with PHDs, Master’s degrees, Bachelors’ degrees and Diplomas in the recently held graduation ceremonies in the different universities.



The Speaker revealed that she had seen the construction and stocking of dormitories with beds at Matumu Senior Secondary School, Namasagali College, Luzinga Senior Secondary School, Bulopa Senior Secondary and Bulopa Hillside School.

“We have stocked these schools with over 2000 beds; we hope to construct a fully-fledged laboratory at Kabukye Senior Secondary School with the help of her Japanese friends,” Kadaga added.



Hon Nkaayi Mbagadi ,a former Member of Parliament for Kagoma County hailed the Speaker for the timely intervention saying that such interventions will help Busoga region which over the years has recorded poor performances, with most of the districts getting less than 50 first grades



Hon. Frank Nabwiso also a former Member of Parliament for Kagoma County called on the Speaker to continue fighting for revamping and Government takeover of Busoga University.

Kadaga called on all Busoga leaders to come together and demand Government to revive Busoga and Namasagali Universities.

In 2017, National Council for Higher Education closed Busoga University citing failure to meet the minimum requirements of offering degree courses.
