COVID-19: Over 100 boda boda riders, passengers arrested for defying presidential directives

Following incidents of continued violation of the presidential directives on the containment of the spread of the novel Coronavirus by boda boda motorcyclists, police have taken firm action against the riders and passengers.
On Saturday, police carried out an operation in which officers arrested both riders and passengers that were violating Ministry of Health guidelines on use of motorcyclists in the country.

The suspects were arrested in an operation that was carried out in Kampala metropolitan areas of Kasangati, Kawempe, Kabalagala, Katwe and other areas on Saturday and Sunday.
Currently, motorcyclists are restricted to only delivery services and only transporting passengers under emergency circumstances.
Ministry of Health issued regulations that riders aren’t supposed to carry passengers since it could lead to spread of the Coronavirus due to lack of social distance.

According to SP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the suspects will be charged with disobedience of lawful orders and doing acts likely to spread infectious disease which is coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Police in Bundibugyo carried out an operation in and around Vision pub in Nyahuka Town Council Bundibugyo district and apprehended 18 suspects who were defying the Presidential directives.
The suspects have been charged with doing acts likely to spread infectious disease which is corona virus.

Police says, the suspects include all professionals. Among them are lawyers, Inspector of Schools, Human Resource Officers, Ambulance Driver, Veterinary Officer, Head Teacher, Physical Planner, Teachers, and nursing Officer.

The suspects were got with exhibits like gambling cards and all brands of alcohol.
