The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Diaspora League has been split into two groups over corruption and poor leadership.

Some members of the League have now decided to form an interim committee headed by a UK based lawyer Patrick Assimwe. The group claims, it seeks to restore the NRM glory in the Diaspora.

‘ ‘ The activities being carried out by the new NRM Diaspora League ground team continues to inflate our political muscle. We are getting stronger, our presence is being felt and we are registering success after success.’’ Said a member of the new NRM League.

He added: The new leadership with the NRM National Vice Chairman Rt. Hon. ALHajji Moses Kigongo as the patron seeks to reshape, refurbish and change the image of the NRM Diaspora League, which was been tarnished and weakened by the bad, corrupt and backward leadership of Mr. Abby Kigozi Walusimbi.

The group claims that despite the mismanagement of the League by Mr. Walusimbi and the others, the group has contributed and supported several humanitarian projects back home,

“We contributed funds towards the hospital bills of the Kalule Mustafa, the man who wanted to take his life by jumping from the rooftop of Mabirizi Complex along Kampala Road. Spearheaded by our Chairman Patrick Assimwe, we contributed support to Mchomo and Roadside market vendors at Kyazanga along Kampala Mbarara road. Recently, we donated food aid to Isingiro residents in western Uganda who were dying of hunger,” says Robert Nsubuga Kageme

He adds: We have drafted and handed our proposals to parliament of Uganda detailing the issues affecting the Ugandans in the Diaspora. We have also made contacts with the Uganda Investment Authority together with the Uganda Revenue Authority on matters about Investment Incentives for the Diaspora.

According to Mr. Nsubuga Kageme, the interim committee has managed to initiate members ID/Database registration procedures in the respective countries. This database shall be the springboard on which other benefits to Ugandans in the Diaspora shall lay upon. (Call it Duty-free card) All these achievements have been realised hardly six month since we said no to “Mafias and corrupt” Leadership of Mr. Walusimbi.

The other members on the new association include Mr. Yusuf Musoke (First Chairperson), Dr. Godius Yesigye (Secretary-General) and Mr. Titus Kirabo as Deputy Secretary.

The split group is also planning to have a convention which will attract all the members from different countries.
