Parliament’s Equal Opportunities committee has ordered for the closure of Luzira based Blue Wave Beverages Limited, the manufacturers of Blue Wave mineral water.
Recently, a whistle blower petitioned Parliament’s Equal Opportunities Committee, with a carton of Blue Wave mineral water bottles with visible black particles.
The Committee chairperson, Mohammed Nsereko said the black particles in the bottled water indicated contamination.
“People have been complaining about Blue Wave water, including the Office of the Prime Minister, which cancelled the company’s contract. This type of water is bound to make Ugandans sick. The company should be closed,” MP Nsereko said.
The Uganda National Bureau of Statistics(UNBS), Deputy Executive Director in charge of Technical Operations Patricia Ejalu told the committee that UNBS conducted a test analysis on Blue Wave mineral water on May 13, 2015 and found that the quality of water was not fit for consumption.
“We are going to suspend their operations until they meet the quality requirements. We shall work with the committee and sector ministry to ensure that consumers in Uganda are protected against such products,” Ejalu promised.
Blue Wave Beverages Uganda Limited, is a Chinese company that was launched in 2003..
