The State Minister for Privatization and Investment Evelyne Anite has enrolled for master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, United States.
The institution, which describes itself as a premier University dedicated to educating new leaders for a changing world, charges $55,000 as tuition fees per annum.
On June 28, Anite wrote to the Speaker of Parliament saying she had enrolled for the Global Masters of Arts Program in International Relations and Diplomacy at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University USA where “I am scheduled to attend class for my Masters Degree from July 5 to 28 August 2018.” The same letter was copied to the President
She added: “The purpose of this letter is to inform you and to request permission to take leave from Parliament to enable me attend class for my Masters Degree. During my absence, Hon David Bahati will hold my portfolio.”
There had been unconfirmed reports that Anite departure was linked to some decisions she could not have coordinated properly. There is the impasse at Uganda Investment Authority where the board suspended the executive director Jolly Kaguhangire, who was seen as close to Anite.
Others issues are the process of finding an investor for Uganda Telecom Limited (UTL), which was has been under receivership for the last one year.
However, Anite told local online publication that there was no pressure that forced her to ask for leave. “That is mere speculation. People have written negative things about me but they are not true. Some individuals just want to bring down others,” she said.
