Reckless driving and drink driving among other factors lead to the death of than 223 Ugandans in one month- from 1st May 2017 to 18th June 2017.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, traffic police spokesman Charles Ssebambulide revealed that during the said period police registered 707 accidents across the country, with 223 deaths. Of the 223 deaths, 60 deaths involved boda boda riders, while 85 were pedestrians.



Majority of the accident occurred in May, with only 74 occurring in June with 53 deaths. Meanwhile more than 780 victims are still nursing wounds.
Among the dead was a lecturer at the Law Development Centre and former head of Registry at the Uganda Registration Services Bureau, Maudah Atuzarirwe.

Ms Atuzarirwe died in a road accident on the Mbarara-Masaka highway. The deceased was driving a sliver Spacio car headed to Kampala from Bushenyi District
Meanwhile, two people have been confirmed dead and more than 30 others injured in Tuesday accident in Fort Portal.



The accident happened after a Fuso truck, registration number UAS 065B, carrying mourners from Bulungu along Fort-Kasese road, heading to Kansenene-Harugongo in Busoro Sub-county scratched another. The driver tried to speed off but failed to negotiate a corner along Kakiza road. He lost control of the truck which fell on its left side killing two on spot.
