The weekend was that of tears and sorrow. At least 21 Ugandans lost their lives in three nasty road accidents along Kampala-Jinja, Kampala-Mityana and Masaka-Mbarara roads.
At least ten people died instantly and several others injured in a saturday morning nasty road accident that happened at Balisaanga Namabaale a few meters away from Bujjuuko town, 17 miles along Kampala- Mityana road.
According to eyewitness, the accident happened when an over speeding truck registration number UAQ 267Q loaded with timbers attempted to overtake another FUSO truck registration number UAQ 013D overloaded with farmers produce heading to Nakasero market.
However, the driver of UAQ 267Q noticed there was another car coming from Kampala, he tried come-back in his lane only to hit the back of the overloaded Fuso with farmers on top of the truck. The injured were rushed to Mulago hospital
In another road accident that happened Sunday evening, at Bulyantete, a few kilometres from Lugazi town along Kampala Jinja High way, seven people were confirmed dead and several seriously injured following a road accident involving three cars: one taxi and two trailers.
According to eye witnesses, a trailer registration. No. KPJ 271L/ZD 195 coming from a nearby washing bay entered the road abruptly only to hit a taxi registration number UAZ 972R travelling from Kampala to Jinja. The driver of the second trailer fuel tanker UAX 170Q/UAY 064C travelling from Kampala to Kenya failed to brake and rammed into the taxi. The injured were rushed to Kawolo hospital
The third major accident happened on Sunday morning in Lwengo, western Uganda. The accident happened at Nkalwe village along Masaka-Mbarara highway in Kingo Sub County in Lwengo District claimed four and injured several others.
The accident happened when a taxi Reg. No. UAW 361S with occupants heading for burial from Kyankwanzi District to Kisoro collided with a Premio Reg. No UAY 613I travelling from Mbarara to Kampala. According to eyewitness, four people died instantly including the taxi driver and three members of the same family.
Eyewitness say the accident happened after a speeding car coming in the opposite direction tried to overtake the Premio and in the process, the Premio abruptly moved in another lane causing the accident. In the process, the taxi driver lost control and rolled.
Some of the injured were identified as Irene Nakazzi ( 9 months), Hekia Kabumulemi, Tumusiime Varence, Daphine Mbabazi, Musabimana Ventina, Alex Sserwadda, Rose Mary Namukisa, Kabingi Dewuzenge and unidentified UPDF officer.
