Dr. Stella Nyanzi who was arrested last week for allegedly insulting President Museveni’s his late mother Esteri Kokundeka, on Wednesday appeared in court to answer charges of cyber harassment and offensive communication.
She was arraigned before Buganda road court Grade one Magistrate Esther Nahilya and charged for harassing president Museveni.
The magistrate however said she would be remanded to Luzira prison until November 9 when she will return to court for plea taking before the trial magistrate. “I’m simply reading the charges to you,” said Ms Nahilya
Nyanzi was arrested last week on Friday for using her Facebook to post an article, on September 16, 2018, a day after Museveni’s 74th birthday.
In the Facebook, Nyanzi called on the dead Museveni’s late mother, Esteri Kokundeka to come take her son away because he’s torturing and murdering Ugandans and looting the country’s resources. She also attacked Esteri for raising and looking away as her son continues to cause suffering to Ugandans.
Meanwhile, the Embattled Makerere Institute for Social Research research fellow has appeard to public to help her raise her legal fees. Nyanzi claim that since being suspended by the university in March last year for attacking the First Lady Janet Museveni, Nyanzi hasn’t received any salary since.
“Dr. Stella Nyanzi needs your help to pay her legal fees. 0771-824-117 is her personal number. 0757-200-204 is her lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde’s number. Both numbers are registered on mobile money. If you can, send with the reason ‘Legal Fees’. Thank you.” Marvin Saasi, a close confidant of Nyanzi, posted on his Facebook timeline.
