South Sudan Riek Machar flown to Khartoum for treatment

South Sudan main opposition leader, Dr. Riek Machar has arrived in Sudan capital Khartoum to seek medical treatment. A senior Sudanese officer told the state news agency SUNA.

‘‘Sudan has received Dr, Riek Machar, for pure humanitarian reasons especially his need for treatment and medical care’’ said infromation minister Dr Ahmed Bilal Osman

He added: The health condition of Dr Rick Machar is now stable and he will stay in the country under full medical supervision until he leaves the country for a destination of his choice to complete his medical treatment.

According to BBC’s Mohanad Hashim, Mr Machar’s presence in Khartoum will give Sudan influence. It is likely to try and present itself as a mediator in the conflict, although many South Sudanese will be suspicious of its intentions.

South Sudan vice president and, Riek Machar successor as vice-president, Taban Deng Gai was also in Khartoum early this week. .

Meanwhile, according South Sudan Newspaper, the Tribune, the UN mission in DR Congo evacuated the SPLA IO Chief of Staff Gen. Simon Gatwich under fake name to avoid issues of UN travel ban
